Snow

Snow is a small game about finding your lost friend in a blizzard. I created Snow to learn more about shaders; specifically, vertex shaders. The gameplay for Snow is really simple, and honestly took a backseat to the snow shader I threw together.

In short, I track the players position in the game world and write their coordinates to a texture map. Using this data, along with tessellation, I then “push down” the vertices on the ground mesh that correspond to the “stepped on” pixels in the aforementioned texture map.

It was a fun learning exercise!

Here’s an early version of the snow effect coming together! As you can hear, I love Banjo-Kazooie.
